Challenge Cup-tie, March 1970
I was born in Leeds and lived there till moving to Hull in 1971. I first saw Rovers at Headingley in 1968, the year I was introduced to live rugby league by a Leeds-supporting friend. To his disappointment, I was more interested in ‘the other side’ and over the next couple of years went to quite a few more Rovers away games – Bradford, Castleford, Featherstone, Hunslet, Leeds again, etc.
First Local Derby
Of the four grounds in East Hull Rovers have owned, I have seen matches at Craven Park, New Craven Park and have refereed a game at Winchester Avenue so to complete the set I would have loved to have seen a game at Craven Street.
One man always commanded the field
It was 2009 when I started attending Rovers regularly and one man always commanded the field and my attention, and that was Michael Dobson.
From 2014: Making up for lost time
My first Rovers memory was in 2004. I was 14 years old and recieved some free tickets from school for a Friendly with the Kazan Arrows.
Red tie – tied around my head!
My favourite match has to be the 2010 Play-Off Derby which saw us beat Hull FC 21-4. I was at my girlfriends (now wife, some how) sisters wedding during the day.
A winning debut for the Poppy Shirt!
I genuinely think I could pick 50+ games, most of which I wasn’t born when they happened.
One of the greatest goalkicking fullbacks
During my seven decades of watching Rovers I have had many favourite players but my first was Cyril Kellett. His Heritage number is 605.
